We are a family-owned collective of ocean and people-lovers. We are obsessed with helping people rediscover themselves (and what truly matters to them) through providing them with opportunities to escape life on land to the other world that is the sailing life.
True story. Captain Todd and Captain Nicolas met at work. Nicolas was Todd’s boss actually. They were working at a sailboat charter company while each dreaming of one day starting their own. One sunny day, they figured out they liked each other and shared a dream. The rest is, well, history.
FLÖ is different. True, there are lots of Sailing Charter Companies in the World, but there are very few that offer our combination of luxurious Day Charters in a major metropolitan area with an adventurous (slightly mad) Ocean Sailing Program and (once we’ve crossed that ocean) your more classic week-long Winter Island Escapes. The real beauty is our crew. Imagine, you meet us on a three-hour corporate charter in the Toronto-area. We get to chatting about how we spend our Winters. You find out we spend them hanging out in the Caribbean on the same boat we’re on. “How do you get there?” you ask. “We sail there.” We say. “What, across the Ocean?” Yup. Last question is yours and it’s on your lips before can even really think about it; “Can I come?” Sure you can. We do this for you.
It sounds grand, we know. But that’s truly why we do this. Sure, it’s fun to take people sailing and we love having a job doing something we’d do for free. But, the thing that really keeps us engaged, and giving our best effort day after day and month after month, is the fact that we genuinely care about helping people experience the transformative journey that comes with focused, sometimes intense, always enlightening, time on the water. Especially time on a sailboat. A sailboat puts you close to nature and close to people. It exposes you to forces bigger than you and demands that you adapt. It’s magical, and we live to share that magic with as many people as possible.
Chances are you spend more time on a screen (at work and play) that you’d care to admit. We’re betting you already know that an escape to the great outdoors (aboard a yacht, at sea) is exactly what you need to help you rediscover your joie de vivre. We exist to help you make that happen.
Arrive at the yacht, get a safety briefing, settle in, and off we go. We’ll shoot down Hamilton Bay out onto the open waters of Lake Ontario and, depending on where the wind is coming from, head East towards Burlington/Oakville or South West towards Niagara. After an hour or so we’ll drop the sails and go for a swim in the middle of the Lake. Snacks are next, then we turn round and head back towards Burlington Beach, under the lift bridge and back up the bay to home.
A deep ocean passage is much more like Mountain Climbing than hanging out at an all-inclusive resort. You’re going to be uncomfortable, you’re going to have to work, to carry your share of moving the boat through the World. You will probably feel sick for the first five days. You will be scared, bored, frustrated. But, the rewards of communing with the open horizon, the starlit sky, your fellow shipmates, and the satisfaction you get from doing something very difficult, will be more than worth it.
Okay, this is the vacation spot, and then some. We know we’re biased, but we can’t think of a better way to spend a week chilling out with friends and family. Your yacht is basically a mini-resort that moves. Your food will be totally customized to your desires. Your crew will treat you like family. You’ll be able to be as active or as relaxed as you want. The entire week will seem like a dream, moving from anchorage to anchorage, beach to beach, amazing experience to amazing experience.
With thousands of ocean miles between them and years of customer-centric hospitality work under their keel, Todd Cantelon and Nicolas Lopez are passionate about sharing their love of the water with their guests. Driven by a truly family-first approach, Todd and Nicolas’ desire is to help you feel seen, heard, valued and inspired by your time on the water with them.
